North Carolina Agricultural Research Service Miscellaneous Records 1889-1989

Includes annual reports regarding corn research in North Carolina jointly conducted by the Agricultural Research Service (Experiment Station) and the United States Dept. of Agriculture from 1946 to 1957. Also contains annual weather reports, monthly weather summaries, and quarterly reports of the North Carolina State University weather service and the North Carolina experiment stations, 1889-1896. The Agricultural Experiment Station was transferred from the state to North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (A&M College, later North Carolina State University) on 9 December 1889 and became a source of contention between the state Dept. of Agriculture and the college through the early part of the twentieth century. The title "Agricultural Experiment Station" was changed to "Agricultural Research Service" in 1979.
